Twenty of Orange County’s top cookie-selling Girl Scouts parcelled virtually 2,000 cartons of their popular cookies into a Beechcraft King Air 350 at John Wayne Airport, Friday, March 6, and direct them on their course to Camp Pendleton.
The Thin Mints, Girl Scout S’mores, Caramel DeLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Lemonades, Do-Si-Dos, Thanks-a-Lots, and Gluten-Free Caramel Chocolate Chips were being delivered to more than 1,000 Marines at the base.
Atlantic Aviation gave the cookies to the Marines through the Girl Scouts of Orange County’s Cookie Share Program, who are beneficiaries local military members and the Second Harvest Food Bank. The $10,000 cookie give is one of the largest in recent years, said Elizabeth Fairchild, spokesman for Girl Scouts of Orange County.
In 2019, the program was used to donate 46,607 containers of cookies.
Once replenished, the plane headed to the Atlantic Aviation facility at the McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad and from there the cookies were trucked to Camp Pendleton. The aviation group contributed another $2,000 for help of the plane.
The cookies will be circulated similarly among the Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Combat Training Battalion, Infantry Training Battalion, and Advanced Infantry Training Battalion.
” We all receive support from our friends and family, but it isn’t often that outside organizations and those with whom we may never meet make such gestures of charity ,” said Michael Dittamo, lead of organisation with Camp Pendleton’s School of Infantry.” The realization that our efforts and sacrifices are recognized and appreciated by so many reinforces our commitment to serve .”
Marines are especially elicited to get the Thin Mints, he said.
” A much of beings like to try ones they haven’t had before, so I’m sure the part spate will be extremely well received ,” Dittamo said.
Atlantic Aviation’s Kirstyann Fournier said the donation was made to the Marines because of their long autobiography in Orange County, in particular at the onetime Marine Corps Air Station Tustin.
” South Orange County is home to many Marines and their families ,” Fournier said.
The Girl Scouts — who wander from 5- to 7-year-old Daisy Scouts to high-school-aged Ambassador Scouts — got a tour of the aviation fellowship and learned about professions in aviation.
” We’re elicited not only to benefit neighbourhood armed but that there is a hear opportunity for the girls ,” Fairchild said.
