James Makshanoff, currently the city manager of San Clemente, has been chosen as Pomona’s next top executive.
After a national search that enticed more than 30 applicants, Makshanoff is expected to be appointed city manager at the City Council meeting Monday, Dec. 16.
If his contract is approved, Makshanoff will receive a wage of $275,000.
” He has demonstrated integrity, a willingness to listen, and the ability to get things done ,” Mayor Tim Sandoval said in a statement announcing the move.
Prior to his tenure in San Clemente, Makshanoff provided as city manager in Azusa from 2012 -2 014, after wreaking as aide city manager and agent public works director.
Sandoval quoth Makshanoff’s experience with Azusa during the construction of the Gold Line and” pertained occurrence will be invaluable to the City as we prepare the construction of the Gold Line to Pomona.”
Mayor Tim Sandoval announced in March that longtime City Manager Linda Lowry will retire at the end of the year.
Lowry’s day of reckoning with Pomona will be Dec. 31. Deputy City Manager Mark Gluba will serve as interim city manager until Makshanoff begins on Jan. 21, 2020.

Pomona hired the house Ralph Andersen& Associates to conduct the national search.
