More than 100 6- to 13 -year olds given their strands off the San Clemente Pier on Saturday, hoping to land a prize-winning catch. The trawl derby was part of the third annual San Clemente Days, celebrating the city’s 92 nd birthday and reputation the pier’s historic significance as a net pier.

First catch: Ronan Hallinan, 9 Most fish( three ): Ronan Hallinan Biggest fish( 9 1/2 inches ): Kaiya Roble, 7 Smallest fish( 4 3/4 inches ): Nate Stults, 7 Most peculiar( two fish collision the same line ): Nate Stults
All participants received a medal, T-shirt, and prizes. In addition to fishing, activities included a “hairs-breadth” colorist and mermaid, face depict and Fin the Fish, the fishing derby mascot. Following the derby, the community was invited for free swim at Ole Hanson Beach Club.
