OC Parks invites children and families to learn all about bugs and butterflies. Come tour Riley Wilderness Park’s butterfly garden at this free, family-friendly event on Sunday, June 3. Special guests include Mimi the Monarch Butterfly and Western Monarch Guardians. Plant and insect experts will be available to provide educational information and answer questions.
During the 10 a.m.-3 p.m. event, kids can explore educational stations, informative exhibits and meet live anthropod friends. See the intricate design of a bee colony with honeycomb and a live queen bee. Also, get an up-close encounter with native hawks and snakes.
Additional activities include a live butterfly enclosure, children’s face painting, giveaways, native plant sales, storytelling, park tours and arts and crafts. There will also be a live butterfly release at 3 p.m. A food truck will be on-site serving food for purchase.
